Q: Quicktime 7 broken

I have had and used QT 7 for a number of years.

Did Apple just break software I bought and paid for...???

I bought the Pro version, and have used it semi regularly.

Then suddenly it isn't working.

That is unacceptable.

And - there is no way of re entering the registration code either.

If I go to the "registration" option in the dropdown menu, I get - nothing.

Stop F 'ing up "my" software.   :-(

And NO, v.10 is not an option - because it doesn't provide the Edit options I want and use.

    Hi there.

A few things that may be helpful:

This is a user-to-user forum and although it's operated by Apple, posting here is not a great way to provide them with feedback.

Just to let you know, there is an active discussion community for Quicktime on these boards.

I can confirm that QuickTime Pro does work on El Capitan. You should have a registration key in your email history if you need to re-download. This support doc may be useful.

    Good luck.

    Thanks Russ,

As it happens, I found a work-around, and got working again.

(version 7.6.6 - as opposed to my earlier version - v7.6.2 I think...)

Still not happy that it all just stopped though.

But all's well that ends well I guess...

QT7 still works fine for me.  Are you on a new Mac or something?  Registration window opens for me.  Did you do a fresh install?  Also, QT X does in fact have editing features in it.  Which ones in 7 Pro does it not have?  Just curious.  Now, if you need the "editing" features that badly, and use them that often, iMovie or FCPX would be a much better solution.  Easier, faster to work with.  QT 7 Pro is pretty archaic to do editing with.
