Q: "Other" login

I have a late 2009 iMac, OS X El Capitan 10.11.5. Recently, I see a "Other" login in addition to my regular login. I had never seen this before. Does this signify a problem? Had I been hacked? How do I get rid of it?

Okay. I see the option in the Edit menu to Enable Root User. So that tells me that the Root User is not enabled. Then the "Other" option on the login screen is due to something else.

As you can see, it was quite involved to get to that point, so if you didn't remember doing it, I don't imagine you would have enabled it.

The only other reason I know of for "Other" is if you are logging into a directory server like Open Directory or Active Directory. Based on your original post, I wouldn't image you have been doing this and suddenly noticed the "Other" login.

I don't even know what a directory server is. I just see the "Other " login when I log in to the computer.
