Q: Apple's Digital AV Adapter compatible with smasung smart tv

My Apple's Digital AV Adapter worked great with my old Sony TV and was able to mirror it with my iPad mini with no issues. I upgraded my TV to a Samsung Smart TV and when I connect the Apple's Digital AV Adapter with the HDMI cable I get an error saying I have to go into settings from my iPad and select screen mirroring to be turned on.

So I guess my question is how do I get my Apple's Digital AV Adapter to work with my Samsung Smart TV?

Thank you

iPad Mini, iOS 9.3.2

Not sure what ports your TV has (or your Mini), but here are all the adapters/cables available:

    http://www.apple.com/shop/ipad/ipad-accessories/power-cables

My iPad has a Lightning connector, so I just use a Lightning to HDMI adapter which plugs into my TV's HDMI port. It works great.

Thank you for your reply. If you had read I put I have the Apple Digital AV Adaptor and that with my Sony TV just plugged in and worked great. Having issues with my new Samsung Smart TV and it not working. Appreciate your reply but this did not solve my issue.

Well, what ports do you have on your Samsung TV? Or which one do you want to use? Ours is a Samsung Smart TV and we use one of the HDMI ports on it.

Once you connect the iPad, do you change your source input using the remote to the port you are using?

As stated, it is a Samsung Smart TV therefore HDMI port and yes change the source input on the remote  only getting a message to activate screen mirroring on the iPad. Reason for this forum question.

Well apparently I am misunderstanding you completely, so I will give up. According to the specs for an iPad Mini, it has a Lightning connector. Therefore, if the TV has an HDMI input, you are using a Lightning Digital AV  > HDMI adapter?

My point was that  there shouldn't be a need for any settings to activate - see the info here:

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202044

as well as page 92 of the iPad user manual.

So, unless someone chimes in with a better suggestion, I'd recommend you set up an appointment at your nearest Genius Bar. The help is free of charge. Bring your iPad and your adapter. FWIW, my first adapter I purchased was faulty and did not work reliably. I exchanged it and haven't had a problem since.

I apologize Babowa, I'm just frustrated and understand you are just trying to help me. Don't mean to be rude.

I do have an Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter. With my Sony TV I had no issues but with the Samsung Smart TV, the minute I put in the HDMI and change the input it states I have to activate screen mirroring. I am now wondering if it is the TV settings and not with the iPad. I will play around with it. Once again thank you for trying to help me out and for being snappy when it isn't your fault.

this is the adapter I have - http://www.apple.com/shop/product/MD826AM/A/lightning-digital-av-adapter

I understand - I have the very same adapter and it works. It will only show up if I use the remote to choose the HDMI port where the adapter is plugged in first. I do that, I get a "no signal" on the TV, then I plug the adapter into the iPad. A few seconds later, my screen shows on the TV screen.

If you can't find anything on your TV settings, I'd take it to the Genius Bar. They're usually pretty good with stuff like that.

Let me try that. We actually have an HDMI slitter because of the Blu Ray and the Wii U. I'll try putting the HDMI directly onto the TV instead of selecting which input, then plug in the iPad instead of it already being connected.

Once again thank you for your help!
