Q: Pictures automatically uploading

Pictures I take with my iPhone automatically show up in both my photo stream and my all photos folder in Mac Photos. How do I stop them from automatically uploading to the all photos folder?

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012)

    Hi Austin,

I stopped this happening on my computer so long ago I think I remember how I did it.

Open Photos on your Mac with your iPhone connected

Uncheck Open Photos for this device

Currently when I want to import photos I have to open Photos andmake it happen.

I didn't need to do anything about iCloud preferences in Photos:

There is only one copy of your photo being stored.

The photo stream is just a "view" of your photos. You can't manage the all photos album.

Yes that is the way it works

When you use MyPhotoStream on your Mac with Photos all photos imported to Photos are uploaded to MPS and all photos added to MPS from other devices are downloaded and imported to Photos on the Mac - All Photos (an the PhotoStream album on the Mac) are not places - they are views of photos in your library - same photos being shown in different views

I don't want my pictures to show up in All Photos on my Mac.  I prefer to plug in my iPhone and sync them so I can then place them in folders.  Do I need to turn MPS off to be able to do this?

I don't want my pictures to show up in All Photos on my Mac.

Each and every photo in your Photos Library will appear in "All Photos".  It is a smart album that is showing you all photos in your Photos  library.

The "All Photos"  smart album does not need extra storage. It is just another index to show you all photos.

Don't import to the Photos.app at all, if you do not want photos in all Photos.  That means also to turn off My Photo Stream on your Mac.

If you want to import into folders outside the Photos Library, use Image Capture to import from your phone and not Photos.

    Yes since as I posted

If you do not want them in Photos then do not use MPS
