Q: random shutdown

Good day everyone, as the title say, I'm experiencing random shutdowns with mu MBP 3.1

A couple of months ago I had a GPU problem wich I fixed by replacing the mainboard with an "upgraded" chip.

It happens no matter if the battery is there of not and it's the same with the charger. Replaced the ram with Owc units.

At this point I don't know if it's hardware or software related so here's a report:

Delete CleanMyMac 3.  It can corrupt your Mac.

    http://macpaw.com/support/cleanmymac/knowledgebase/how-to-uninstall-cleanmymac-3

Rid the Mac of the torrent application.  Torrents are a good way of introducing malware.

Exactly what do mean by an 'upgraded chip' when you replaced the logic board?

    Ciao.

AS for the gpu, they replaced the original one with a more recent version wich produce less heat.

CleanMyMac is NOT going to solve any problems you may have.

You are going to have to do some searching.  Among the things you may try are:

Check for kernel panics using these instructions and post it if you find one:

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201753

    Reset the NVRAM:

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063

    Run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac:

    https://www.malwarebytes.org/antimalware/mac/

Boot in to safe mode and see if the shutdowns disappear.  If so, a third party extension may be the problem:

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

    Run an Apple Hardware Test:

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201257

Note that an error free AHT is not conclusive.

The worst case is to erase the HDD, reinstall the OSX and then from your backup, reinstall your data selectively.  That way you theoretically would leave the problem behind.  This assumes that your problem is a software one.

    Ciao.

That complicates matters.  That may or may not be an issue.  Perhaps the AHT will tell if there is a problem.

    Who are 'they'?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It makes no changes to your data. The instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.

I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. That's what I suggest you use, even if your preferred browser is something else.

Please triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CSeq 'n Cause: -' | tail | awk '/:/{$4=""; print}' | pbcopy

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.

Launch the built-in Terminal application in any one of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.

Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear below what you entered.

The output of the command will be automatically copied to the Clipboard. If the command produced no output, the Clipboard will be empty. Paste into a reply to this message.

The Terminal window doesn't show the output. Please don't copy anything from there.

A negative shutdown code may indicate a hardware problem. The precise meaning of the codes is not publicly documented.

If you haven't already done so, you can try resetting the System Management Controller. Otherwise, or if the reset has no effect, it's probably time to retire the machine. It's too old to be serviced by Apple.

Hey guys, did some testing for a day and it seems my system crashes more often when moving files. I also took the time to make a usb with AHT and got this code while quick testing: 4SNS/1/40000000 TSOP

DO you guys have an idea? Google tells me its a temp sensor unplugged somewhere?

    thanks!

That is a temperature sensor code (4SNS/1/40000000 TSOP).  Perhaps an Apple store genius bar technician can assist in locating it for youy.

a reading of 0 or a power of two (128, 256) sometimes indicates a sensor that is disconnected.
