Q: Cannot login remotely with Back to my Mac

I have previously followed the Apple instructions to set up my MacBook Pro (El Capitan) at home to allow Back to My Mac and when I am at work David's MacBook Pro duly appears under Shared in Finder.

I must have done something correct as I can get Share Screen working perfectly by entering my user name and password however I cannot get Connect As... working, each time it says Connection Failed.  I am doing something right as if I mistype the password then immediately it does the shimmer/shake to say it is a mistake.

The domain name of my home computer is Davids-MacBook-Pro.local and I have tried entering the username as:

Davids-MacBook-Pro.local\David Anson

Davids-MacBook-Pro\David Anson

David Anson

but all to no avail

Any idea where I am going wrong?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11), 10.11.4

I can't use back to my mac because most hotel routers won't support its use (when else would you need it after all?)

I have everything on both computers configured properly.

Back to my mac works very well in your own house-otherwise, not so much.

The hotel's routers support it if the system admin does not block it. Likely blocked for security reasons. The same reason hotels often block other than webmail. When else would you need it, when you are at a remote location that does not prevent it for security reasons.

Talk to your company's system administrator. He/she has likely blocked it within the company's routers/firewalls.

Thanks, that has helped me get a step further.  I tried to click 'Correct Answer' but for some reason it did not mark it up as such.
