Does anyone know how After I connect my Mac 2008 Desktop (that won't start.) to my laptop(2013 Mac Air). What are the steps I need to know to get the Desktop files to show up on my mac air so I can copy files to the laptop, especially my Itunes folder.

If you cannot get the iMac started and running, you will not be able to use Target Disk Mode:

Then the option is to take out the HDD from the iMac, install it in an enclosure and connect the HDD to the MBA via USB. If the HDD is recognized, then you can copy data off of it.
