Q: Cannot get into disk recovery

How do I get into the Disk Recovery at startup?

MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015)

OS X El Capitan ver 10.11.5

Command+R at the chime takes me to internet recovery.  The globe rotates for 10 min or so then gives me an error:

"Apple.com/support

         -2002F"

I just received the Mac back from Tokyo.  After getting home with the Mac, I had the same error trying to reinstall the version that came with the Mac by using the Command+Option+R at the startup chime - I received the above error.

I then successfully entered disk recovery (command+R), and deleted the drive.  I was also able to install the El Capitan OS X from the time machine.  However, I need to do a clean install.  Now I cannot get back in to delete the drive by using Command+R.

Right now both the Command+Option+R and Command+R go to "Internet Recovery" - starts the WiFi and then rotates the globe, ultimately giving the error:

"Apple.com/support

         -2002F"

I have reset the NVRAM and the SMC  no help getting into the Disk Recovery

Any help would save a 2 hr drive back to the support center.

Thanks

MacBook, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5), Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015

    Hello again, Daikusan.

I told you in an earlier thread that I would check on your next issue.  Here is my best if you get no better suggestions here.

    (1) If you mean a clean install of only the OS X that is on your startup disk, Internet Recovery should do that when you follow the on-screen instructions.

As explained in the OS X Internet Recovery section of Apple's "About OS X Recovery" knowledge base document:

Newer Macs include the ability to start up directly from an Internet-based version OS X Recovery. Your Mac automatically uses this feature when the Recovery System on the startup drive isn't available...

I don't have an Early 2015 12-inch MacBook Retina like yours, so I cannot test this.  However, it seems to me that your MacBook has a solid-state drive (SSD) that does not have a separate OS X Recovery base system.  Therefore, your Mac uses Internet Recovery instead of Mac OS X Recovery, and the behavior you describe is normal for your Mac.

    (2) If you mean a clean install of all information, both OS X system and data, that is on your startup disk, follow the instructions in the Erase your drive and install OS X section of Apple's "How to reinstall OS X on your Mac" knowledge base document.  Give particular note to the "Important" segment:

Important: Before you erase and reinstall, back up your important files. If you’re using a MacBook, MacBook Air, or MacBook Pro, make sure the power adapter is connected and plugged in while performing these steps.

Remember that secure-erase can impact the life span of your Mac's SSD, so you should not use the secure erase option unless you really need to do so.

    (3) If you need more erase help, this MacIssues.com may be helpful.  If you are not comfortable with the instructions in that article, you are wise to seek professional help from your Apple-Authorized Service Provider.  He can help you safely accomplish your specific needs.

    EZ Jim

Your info is good but does not help me get into the recovery.  I am getting an error before it completly loads.

    This is NOT NORMAL

Command+R at the chime takes me to internet recovery.  The globe rotates for 10 min or so then gives me an error:

If you get no better help here, and if the problem persists although you have followed all relevant Apple instructions, contact the people who repaired your Mac and politely ask them about your problem and error message.  It may be possible that some required fix was left undone or not properly completed during your recent service visit.
