Q: Contacts times (5)

Apple care has had a lot of interaction with my new MacBook Pro, and after the last "fix" I now have (5) or more versions of all of my contacts on both my computer and my iPhone 6s.  Annoying when Alerts tells me about (5) identical birthdays for each person.

Apparently during one of the earlier versions, when I was instructed to make an archive, Contacts already had generated (3) copies of each, and it has been suggested that my back-up is "corrupted" and this is part of my problem, so I would rather not use my back-up disk or this archive if there is a switch I can throw to go back to only (1) vCard for each separate contact.

Contacts is selected in iCloud on both the MacBook and my iPhone.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

    Hi RTF92.5!

I can appreciate how important it is to have your contacts setup correctly, and duplicates are no fun.  We have a support article that outlines what to do if you see duplicate contacts for iCloud on your Mac. Once applied, this should affect the iPhone contacts as well if you're only using iCloud for contacts.

If you see duplicate contacts after setting up iCloud Contacts

Thanks for contacting Apple Support Communities.

    Cheers.

    Hi Jeff_W.

Thank you for the support page link.

Unfortunately, it is happening on iCloud as well, apparently, which means I have to contact "iCloud Support" now.

Many hours of Apple Support discussions have not solved any of the problems... and oddly enough, the first problem I tried to solve was to take my Contacts back OFF iCloud, I was hoping for a simple solution.

Was hoping for some super-secret 'community' fix that would just work.  Oh well.

    Take care.
