Jun 5, 2016 7:17 PM in response to OkieAppleMomby Lanny,If you delete the original, it will be deleted. If you delete a version, it will be deleted. Both will be in Aperture's Trash can. If you empty Aperture's Trash, they will be in your Mac's Trash can.

An add on to Lanny's reply: It will depend on whether your images are referenced or no, and also if you are having more than one version of the image, if the original image will be deleted or not. For referenced images you have an option whether you delete the original or only the version. And also for images with more than one version.
Aperture has two deletion commands: "Delete version" and "Delete original file and all versions".
- For referenced files "Delete version" will only delete the version, but not the originals.
- For managed files it is confusing why will happen. If you have only one version of the photo, it will be as Lanny described. "Delete version" will delete the original and the version. Both go to the Trash. But if you have more than one version of the image, "delete version" will delete on ly the selected version.
See Frank Caggiano's user tip:
Deleting version also deleted the master
If you want to delete the originals aa well, always use "Delete original Image and All Versions. If you want to save the originals of an image with only one version, make the image referenced and use "Delete Version".
