Jun 7, 2016 10:16 AM in response to Sofie_akby Johnb-one,I would suggest that you zap the pram-restart computer while holding down cloverleaf, option, p and r keys all together. Hold them down for 3 chimes then let go and let computer boot up normally, if that doesn't work, try using a cleaning dvd in the drive. You are trying to play a commercial dvd yes?. Could be the video card. I (We) don't know what kind it is, all I (We) have to go on is what info you have given us now. Just for the record, the latest OS is El Capitan, which works fine for me. Perhaps you should upgrade to that and try playing a dvd. If the video card is not working right, maybe it is clogged with dust. a blast of compressed air applied there after your computer has been shut down, you have touched the metal frame after removing the side panel might be helpful. Hopefully one or more of my suggestions might work, if not, maybe you could post back here. Has this been happening for a long time? Maybe the drive might need replacement, I don't know. If you do need to do that it's not hard at all. Anyways, give the easy stuff a shot, and post back here if anything worked out. Have you tried VLC for playing dvd's?
