Furthermore, this is where you would use the First Aid option of Disk Utility. From your post we really have no idea what you are fixing or why. Please also read Writing an effective Apple Support Communities question.

It won't complete step 6 in this article so there is no way I get to the next ones (If Mail on your Mac keeps trying to upgrade your email library - Apple Support). The Mail program just wants to Upgrade and it never manages to do so...is there any other help to get?

I tried a myriad of things and finally the screen went past the upgrade stage.
