Reset the old Express back to factory default settings, and then attempt to set it up again.

If the Express continues to stay on solid amber, it has failed, and will need to be replaced.

You should be using the 7.6.7 update not 7.7.7 for your older units.

ccliu likely made a typo in his post.

The user does not control which update to apply, AirPort Utility automatically applies the correct update depending on the version of AirPort.

After leaving that airport express over night it is now green.  But in the airport utility I do not see it.  But it see my 2 newer models.

Should I still perform a hard reset?

Restart your Mac. If the old AirPort Express does not appear, you will need to Hard Reset the Express and then try to set it up again.

You're confusing the Airport Express with the AirPort Extreme and AirPort Time Capsule. The AirPort Express is flat, both the current and previous models, while the current AirPort Extreme and AirPort Time Capsules are "tower" like designs.

Know what you own and apply the proper software to it in the future.

Folks get confused on what model they have, so the correct firmware is installed for the product on hand.....automatically.

It's not possible to install 7.7.7 on an AirPort Express for example, and not possible to install 7.6.7 on the current "tower" versions of the AirPort Extreme or Time Capsule.

I installed 7.6.7 on my Airport Extreme, and it resulted in my router going offline when my Mac attempted a Time Machine backup to the router-attached drive. A downgrade to 7.6.4 solved the problem.

I own three Airport Express 2nd generation, one of them connected to a LAN line and the other 2 extending the main one in wireless mode, I did the upgrade to 7.6.7 on all of them. The two of them which were extending stop working and only shown the orange light even after a hard reset. I play with different configurations during several days, and only got them to extend wireless again if they were close enough to the main station.

I downgraded all of them to use the firmware version 7.6.4 and the issues were gone. I try one more configuration which did help me to find the issue. While keeping the main on 7.6.4 and the other two extending the network wireless on 7.6.7 everything was working as expected.

I think there is an issue with the firmware version 7.6.7 if somehow that Airport Express gets to be used as the main point to extend the network. Apple should really look and test all kind of scenarios before putting and update out. I almost trash all of them thinking they were worthless.
