Q: Can I migrate two separate MacBooks to two new accounts on one iMac?

My partner and I each have our own MacBook Pros and we're thinking about purchasing an iMac. Is it possible to migrate our separate accounts from the two different MacBook Pros to a new iMac as two different accounts on the iMac? We are both running OS X 10.11 (El Capitan).

Yes. No problem as long as each account has a different name. Use setup assistant when you first log into the new mac and make sure the other computers are available (on the network should work). You can migrate other accounts using Migration Assistant from the Utilities Folder after the initial setup.

Thanks! I'll try that out. I've used Migration Assistant in the past to help a friend convert form PC to Mac, but I wasn't sure if things have changed since then. I'll try to remember to update this thread after I've run the process.

Yes it still works. I suggest to use the Setup Assistant when you first log in. That will keep you from having to setup one account first before migrating. I don't think you can move more than one account with Setup Assistant, especially from 2 devices. But it's been many years since I've used it, so I'm not 100% sure on that point. If not, as I said, you can migrate afterwards with Migration Assistant.
