Q: Bedep malware
I received an email from internet provider stating that they received information indicating that one or more devices using your internet connection may be infected with malicious software. It continues with Internet traffic consistent with a malware infection ("bedep")was observed on May 26 and it gave the time from the IP address... and it gave that. It said Infected computers are often used as part of a zombie computer network ("botnet"). I have an older Macbook Air. So some of the suggestions on the internet don't seem to apply. I was brought up using DOS (yes I'm old) and am comfortable with computers but am used to being able to run something to get the "bad people" off my computer. I have loved my Mac but I don't know what to do in these types of situations. I called my internet provider and she said the email address, which ended with the providers ending, was not one they use. However she didn't seem to be proficient in her knowledge so it was difficult to trust what she was saying. I have confirmed thru dumb luck that the ip address was my matchbook. So long story short: is this something Macbook Air can be affected with? Can I run something to remove it? Thank you for your help. I don't know what group to post to. Nothing fits. I guessed at Continuity.
MacBook Air (13-inch Mid 2011), OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)
