Q: Content other than iTunes purchases not in cloud

Recently I've been having trouble adding content to the cloud if it was from sources other than iTunes purchases. I have a current iTunes Match subscription.  Even music from CD's are no longer being added to the cloud.  At first when I tried to manually add them, I was getting an error about my library not being recognized.  I no longer get an error when I try to manually add the song to the cloud, it just does not transfer.  I am using the latest version of iTunes, 12.4.1 and OS 10.11.5 on an iMac.  I'd like to be able to listen to my whole library in the car through my iPhone.  Isn't that what the Match subscription is supposed to allow you to do?  The problem started about two weeks ago.
