Q: Xserve 2009 single fan full speed

Xserve has 1 fan in the fan array thats stuck at full speed, Number 3 fan outlet is stuck around 14000 RPM, with all the rest doing 4000-5000rpm as normal. Ive done PRAM/NVRAM reset, SMC reset, the usual suspects.  Nothing seems to make difference, I even switched the fan with another one on the array but the 3rd outlet fan still runs at ridiculous speed.

This server was in use and working well up until November, it was then shutdown and turned on for the first time yesterday and then presented me with this issue from the moment its switched on.

Im stuck for ideas, has anyone come across this before?

Xserve, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

If the reset of the the SMC and (less likely to help) NVRAM didn't work, then if you've removed and re-seat the fan array and tried again, then — if all that failed — and you've swapped the fan array for a replacement, then all that's likely left here is maybe a bad cable or a bad connection or bent pin.  Check for corrosion or crud around the connection, and clear that.   Swap the cable, next.   Also clear out any accumulated dust — the "chunnel" intakes and the heat sinks tend to plug on Xserve.  In addition to the de-dusting, I'd probably swap the coin cell batteries while in the box.

I replaced the fan array in question with a brand new one, problem no longer occurs
