Q: since updating El Capitan yesterday I cannot access my msn email, I just get "user name and password not verified'

Since updating x El Capitan yesterday I cannot open my msn email in mail. I get "user name and password not verified". I have tried deleting the expired certificates in keychain (as suggested after a quick goggle search). I have deleted the account but get the same error when I try to re-add the account. Arrggghhh!!!

    Howdy GrubbyJ,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

I see from your post that Mail on your Mac keeps telling you that your username or password has not been verified.  Given the troubleshooting you've already gone through, the password may be incorrect or your MSN account may have a type of two-step verification with it.  Take a look at the information below to learn more:

Your email provider may reject your password for several reasons, including:

    • You're not using your current email password. If you updated the password on another device, make sure that you're using the same password on this device.
    • Your email provider needs you to update or reset your password for security reasons. For example, if you turned on Google’s two-step verification, your Gmail account in Mail now requires the appropriate app password.
    • Your email provider deactivated or suspended your account. Contact your email provider for help.
