Q: Export .DV full quality to iTunes

I am trying to import old videos into iTunes so they will be available on my Apple TV.  I have a .DV file of our wedding but I cannot drag it into iTunes.  It does open in Quicktime but the export choices to .m4p reduce the resolution from over 800 megs to less than 30 and it looks terrible (pixilated) on Apple TV.  Any help would be appreciated.

OS X El Capitan (10.11.4), 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7

DV files are a raw product of standard definition videos shot on older cameras. That's 480 by 640.

Bring them into any version of iMovie and share or export them to a compressed format.

These files will play on your Apple TV and will scale up in dimension to fit your display but are always going to be less than anything modern when viewing them.
