you need to add your fingerprint(s) and also turn on which features you want it to work for.
i cannot tell you why there is nothing entered if there was previously, but does it work once you re-enable it?

1. Software failure: Something has failed in the last update causing the issue, or
2. Hardware failure: the TouchID button is faulty and cannot read your data.
If it was my phone, I would restore the phone as 'new' and see if that resolves the issue. If no luck, then I would be contacting Apple directly for the hardware to be checked.
If you choose to go down this path, then complete an encrypted backup of phone to iTunes and Archive it following this article, http://www.macrumors.com/how-to/create-an-archived-itunes-backup/ and then Restore it to 'new'.

Go to settings password & touch ID try and add finger print again .
If this doesn't work make an appointment at apple store .
