Q: Re-install not recognizing my keyboard

At first did not recognize my keyboard. Tried again, it has been over 10 min. & it continues to say "identifying your keyboard..."

is it just hung up? Should I close this box down & go in thru preferences & try that way to get my MacBook Pro to recognize my keyboard?

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.4), 13", mid 2012

    Hello susieqk,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities!

I understand you are having issues setting up the keyboard on your MacBook Pro. I will be happy to provide some information for you. If you are using an external keyboard here is a helpful article about setting up the wireless keyboard.

Set up your Apple wireless devices

If you are having issues with the system keyboard being recognized, then an SMC reset would be the next step.

    Shut down the Mac.
Plug in the MagSafe or USB-C power adapter to a power source and to your Mac.
Using the built-in keyboard, press Shift-Control-Option on the left side of the keyboard, then press the power button at the same time.
Release all keys, then press the power button again to turn on your Mac

Then check to see if the keyboard is now recognized.

    Have a great day!
