It sounds like you've bought and downloaded a TV series from iTunes. The first 3 episodes played fine without an internet connection, but now that you're past that you need to be online to watch them. It could be that those episodes aren't downloaded to the iPad Air. In the Videos app, you'd want to check to see if it shows little cloud icons with down arrows next to episode 4 and later. If you see those, that means they'll need to be downloaded in order to be viewed offline at any time.
