Q: Netinstall images failing (10.11.5)
Setup
Server:
Mac Pro 5.1(Early 2009) running 10.11.5 (just updated)
Apple Server 5.1.5
Machine to be imaged:
Macbook Pro mid 2012.
Server and imaging target are on the same switch and subnet (all are on ethernet, no wireless)
Goal: clean install target machines with 10.11.5 using the netinstall image
I have created a netinstall image of El Capitan using SIU.
I booted the target by holding down that option key.
All our images came up.
Chose my netinstall image.
It appears to be working I get the graphic with the progress bar and the little globe.
Partway through it fails with a (kernel?) panic and then quickly restarts.
I attached an image of the panic screen at the bottom of this post.
Things I have tried:
- creating the netinstall image on a different machine (another Macbook Pro on 10.11.5)
- creating a netboot image
- installing clean 10.11.5 on an external machine and then booting that machine into target mode, and using it for the source of a netrestore image
- using a machine with Yosemite (10.10.5) to create a yosemite netinstall image
all produced the same result (I did not take a picture each time and the machines restart before I can read very much so I am not sure that it is EXACTLY the same, but it looks the same)
More info: The server has some images that do work. We use the Casper suite and have some images we have been using for sometime that were created using a tool called AutocasperNBI that worked and still work just fine. (I can't use those because I need to clean install these outside of the Casper framework).
I am at a loss.
Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5)
