Q: Apple Motion export alpha channel problem

Hello, I expose the problem I detected MOTION v. 5.2.3 (Yosemite 10.10.5) if I create a composition with scale effect and export with alpha channel

(Apple ProRes 4444 - Color + alpha, prmultiply apha)

I have a problem, or that the exported video does not contain the alpha channel. compositing as in image:

dem2.jpg

but if the elements of the animated composition with stairs do not go out of the canvas, the alpha channel is exported, see the picture attached:

I'm not seeing this. Are you able to zip and upload your project somewhere for us to check it out?

Select the Project layer, then select the Properties tab of the inspector and then look at the Background. Is it something other than Transparent??

I created a demo project, a group contains items for export with alpha channel, another group contains the same elements but scaled over canvas and does not export the alpha channel, inside the zip file is a demonstration video editing.

The setting for the project export was ProRes LT. Switching the Export setting to ProRes 4444 and exporting worked.

Sorry my export setting is Apple ProRes 4444 NOT APPLE PRORES LT...

    4444.jpg

The group named EXPORT ALPHA WORK PERFECT with graphics that do not go out of the canvas....

Now hide grouo EXPORT ALPHA and able NO_EXPORT ALPHA, and try to export with Apple ProRes 4444....alpha DON'T WORK if element graphics in canvas are big or over canvas, see image:

This is working for me. Are you sure you're on the latest version of Motion? Verify it by launching Motion and under the Motion menu, selecting About Motion. It should be 5.2.3.

When you save a project, the export settings are also saved. When I opened your project that you had posted and exported, the setting was ProRes 422 LT.  I'm not saying you set that on purpose, sometimes Motion can reset things to a default if it starts losing stability, which it might since Motion 5.2.3 should probably be run in OSX 10.11.2 or later.

Both sections worked equally as well as PR4444 exports:

    exportAlpha2.jpg

[both versions transformed to fit as shown in FCPX]

Just for curiosity's sake: why are you exporting these as ProRes anything? Simply publishing this as a Final Cut Pro Generator would save you tons of memory, the text would be editable in FCPX without having to go back into Motion, you could publish a lot of the parameters to make it customizable in FCPX, like the circle colors, the background circle *shape*! (curvature parameter - 0 is a square, 100% is a circle) and color. There's all kinds of variation you could put into this project, be able to make the changes "on the fly" in FCPX and not have to deal with a huge video file  (11.9 MB vs 55KB) or opening Motion again.
