Q: Limiting bandwith Time Capsule

I am about to install a new 3TB Time Capsule but am simultaneously looking for a bandwidth limitation solution to split a WIFI network into Guests & Owner. There is only 70GB p/month available (2way satellite) and currently guests just drain this pipe within a couple of weeks, if lucky (streaming, etc..).

I know the Time Capsule can accommodate a guest network, with time restrictions, but that won't enough and is too restrictive.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Unfortunately, Apple routers do not have any settings that would allow the owner to control bandwidth allocation.....(which is known as QoS, or Quality of Service) in any way.

If your requirements call for this type of service, then your only real option would be to add a router with the capabilities that you need.....and then set up the Time Capsule to operate in Bridge Mode.

The Time Capsule cannot provide a "guest network" feature when it is configured in Bridge Mode, so you might want to look for a router that would handle that type of function as well.

Thanks Bob, albeit disappointing, this helps narrowing down a solution. You wouldn't happen to recommend such a router or even better, router/backup unit?
