Is it not installed or does it not work?

If it does not work, what does this mean?

Does it not open, crashes it or does it not display any content?

This is strange. For weeks I've tried to get appstore.app working on a 2TB drive on my Mac Pro desktop so I could buy and install Lion.

I had to use another drive because the appstore app was not opening. Used version 1.0.2 appstore app on Snow Leopard to buy Lion. When I got the license and all I was able to copy the .dmg to the drive I wanted Lion to be on and I then upgraded it to 10.7.5.

Then I wanted to use appstore to get more software and it did not exist on the 2TB drive with the newly installed 10.7.5.

I found the appstore app version 1.1.2 and installed it. It would not open so I posted on the Apple Support Communities.

Today when I tried the app (after I had read your reply) it did open and apparently is going to allow me access. I have not yet tried to get the software I want but it looks like it will work.

Apparently this is a buggy version of appstore.app. Everything looks normal when I open it. Clicking on an app to install looks as if it is downloading but it never does. There is the spinning wheel of lines at the top. Nothing downloads. I have tried copying the link and going to the various websites but they refer me back to the apple store site, where exactly the same thing goes vicious circle.

Question: Where can I download an appstore.app that will work on my setup?

The App Store app is part of OS X. It would normally be installed or updated with OS X. You don't just go find a version of the app somewhere and install it as you seem to be describing. I suggest using OS X Internet Recovery and install a new install of Lion directly from Apple over the internet.

Appstore.app still does not work for me on my computer even though it does exist. So far I have followed various of the suggestions. Reinstalled Lion. Rebuilt permissions. Changed Keychain Certificates to "always trust. Etc. etc.

The app store app opens and LOOKS normal. The little hand highlights whatever I click but nothing happens - not even "sign in" is allowed but there is not any error shown. Navigation through the app store windows works very well and nothing is greyed out but NOTHING works.

On one of the online pages is the blurb "With the Mac App Store built into OS X, getting the apps you want has never been easier. No more boxes, no more discs, no more time-consuming installation. Click once to download and install any app on your Mac." Well, guess what - clicking does not do anything whatsoever.

Going to the online apple app store and signing in does not sign me in to the app store - it takes me to a page where I can edit all my personal info. When I go to site map and click on app store it does NOT go to the app store. It goes to blurbs ABOUT the app store and lists some apps. You click on one of those and it takes you to a place on the app store where you can get that particular item.

Now, this is personal opinion based on my own experience within various design and graphics companies. It seems to me that there may be so many Apple employees competing to get their own ideas inserted into the Apple website, that they have basically produced dozens of roadblocks in the website. There seems to me to be a few ego problems within the company. That said, can you help me with the following?:

I want a specific url to use to go DIRECTLY to the apple app store where I can sign in and peruse ALL the items in the store. No ads glorifying Apple and no unnecessary side journeys.

What happens if you open the Mac App Store and click on the "Account" under Quick Links on the right side?

"Account" blinks and nothing happens. Same with "sign in" or any of the apps.

The web site looks great and navigation between pages is normal.

But nothing works. Cannot even sign in.

I have even re-installed Lion, thinking maybe it would re-install the app store app. Still the same.

When I rebuilt permissions in disk utility I watched and it was also rebuilding the app store permissions.

    But still the same.

I have applied "always trust" to certificates in Keychain and applied "read and write" in the get info window.

What is even more frustrating is that when I use a different drive with 10.6.8, the app store app works just fine.

I can sign in, download apps, etc. However, it will not allow downloads of any apps that are for Lion, which is what I need.

I've a feeling that this is a bug within the app store app itself that is installed on 10.7.5. Here is my system info:

    Processor  2 x 3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon

    Memory  16 GB 667 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM

Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256 MB

    Serial Number  157151JUUPZ

    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)

I'm one of those poor folks Apple threw under the bus by abandoning them when they "improved" hardware and software.

I'm stuck at 10.7.5 simply because I can't afford to upgrade software and hardware for all the bells and whistles.

I do however want to be able to download software for Lion 10.7.5 and cannot do so.

Maybe this is a bug in Lion. But Lion is long gone from the App Store and will not be updated.

I am very sorry, but right now I have no other idea how to help you and solve your problem.
