Jun 12, 2016 7:55 PM in response to krollyby Rysz,QuickTime 7 pro licenses are no longer available. QuickTime X, that came with your computer, does not have a Pro version. All functions are available in the basic version, so NO, is the answer to your question.
You can search the Mac App Store for utilities that possibly do what you want.

Jun 12, 2016 8:46 PM in response to Ryszby krolly,Thank you for your helpful response Rysz.
I have tried to download an earlier version of Quicktime which allows audio on fast forward but the latest one downloads instead. Then I went back to a previous mac to watch (and listen to) my footage; the mac immediately before this died a horrible death and as I did not want to back up a brand new whizz bang device with all the old rubbish from my Time Machine backup, I just dragged and dropped the essentials. Of course that older version only allows 8 X the speed on fast forward. I'm starting to regret my decision to not completely back up. Why would Quicktime delete a function and not give access to any way of regaining it? I'm not old-fashioned, but I am starting to dislike change. I was reading through the functions of Quicktime Pro and thought I'd get it anyway, because it does some handy stuff, so I'm doubly disappointed with your answer.
I've had a problem with Stickies too. In the past I've just dragged and dropped those over, but this time it came over as Stickiesdatabase and I can't seem to retrieve the individual notes. Can you offer a simple solution for that by any chance?

Jun 12, 2016 9:17 PM in response to krollyby dialabrain,FWIW, QuickTime X will play audio in FF up to 1.9x normal speed. Hold the option key down while you click on the FF button.
QuickTime Player 7 will play audio in FF up to 3x normal speed without a Pro license.
Download QuickTime Player 7 for Mac OS X v10.6.3 or later
Not sure where you got the 8x speed from. I have a Pro license and FF only goes to 3x.

Jun 12, 2016 9:28 PM in response to dialabrainby krolly,Thank you for that. I did find that Option gave me a fraction more speed with audio, but even 3 X the speed is ponderously slow. I was using 32 X the speed to whizz through rubbish when I'm editing footage down. I"m downloading QuickTime 7.4.1 for Panther onto an old mac with OS X version 10.6.8 to see if I can get back up to speed and still pick up sound. At the moment, its old version of QuickTime (10.0) will only go 8 X speed. I do find it confusing the way the version numbers seem interchangeable. I don't know if I'm looking for 7.6 or 10.4 half the time. I'm starting to grit my teeth over this. Annoying that the developers don't leave well enough alone sometimes.
Thanks again for responding dialabrain. I really appreciate how quick and helpful this community is.

Jun 12, 2016 9:35 PM in response to krollyby krolly,Well that was a waste of time. QuickTime 7.4.1 won't work with OS X 10.6.8.
Do I risk upgrading the system software or will I give myself another bucketload of problems on an older model mac which works perfectly well for other programmes at the moment? I'm not game. :-(

Jun 12, 2016 10:09 PM in response to dialabrainby krolly,The older version, QuickTime 10.4 goes up to 32 times the speed WITH audio. Sadly, the mac with the system to support that version has died permanently. I could use my TimeMachine backup to reinstall my new macbook to match my broken mac, but I am trying to avoid putting all that clutter on my mew mac. Consequently I am dragging and dropping only the essentials onto the new mac from my backup hard drive. I have an even older mac which uses QuickTime 10.0. The top speed on that version is 8 times normal. Not very fast, so I tried loading QuickTime 10.4.1 on it, but that was not compatible. Now I'll try loading that QuickTime 10.4.1 onto my new mac. I have had trouble doing that because each time I tried to download it, it would actually download the appropriate QuickTime for my current system. This time I will physically put the installer app for the older QuickTime directly onto my new machine.
If you don't follow that, I don't blame you. Taking the audio capability off QuickTime on fast forward was a silly move for the developers. Just don't understand it.
Thanks.

Jun 12, 2016 10:39 PM in response to krollyby dialabrain,I think you are mixing the QuickTime version with the QuickTime Player versions. QuickTime 10.0 came out with Snow Leopard and the player was 7.6.6. Panther used QuickTime 7.5 and was PowerPC only. I certainly owned Macs that far back but I don't remember how high the playback speeds were. That was 12 years ago and I'm lucky I can remember last week.

Jun 13, 2016 12:45 AM in response to dialabrainby krolly,Thanks! Yes! I noticed the name change.
I'm worried now that I'll never get those speeds again.
I may have to change to another programme to do simple edits on these videos.
Thank you so much for your persistence in helping me to understand. I have a string of macs that go back years. Sadly, the one that has my life in its memory is deceased but if it can be resurrected, I have its back up. I do know a young man who solders up the tiniest wires onto microscopic circuit boards and brings the most hopeless cases back to life. I love that mac.
Cheers from Australia.
