Q: Removing Preferred Networks

Ok, This has been discussed many times and many moons ago but i still don't see anywhere a proper fix. Hopefully you guys can help :-)

So you have a bunch of 'old' networks in your wifi list across your devices. For me iMac, Macbook Air and iPhone 6 (don't see the list on the phone)

How on earth do you remove what you don't want. I know its also something to do with the keychain. Removing them from the list on both iMac and Macbook and then applying works for about 5 minutes and then they are all back again...

Surely this is something simple..C'mon Apple...this question seems to have been asked a few times now but not with a solid answer...Please please help guys/gals...

Its frustrating.

Many thanks

Mac.

The Preferred networks has nothing to do with the Keychain.

The list is in Network System Prefs under WiFi, Advanced.

If they keep reappearing, try removing them from one of the other Macs.

If they are all signed into the same iCloud account, the networks are sync'd between them.

    1. Go to system preferences > network.

    2. Open the pad lock by entering user name & password.

    3. Click on advanced & select wi fi.

4.Uncheck the box remember this network .

4.Then click on minus sign .

5.After that take the cursor to top menu bar & select your network .

6.Click on apply then close the pad lock .

I have removed them from all devices...They reappear. Someone mentioned below that I should uncheck the box remember this network..There is no box saying that..Just that remember networks that this computer has joined...If i uptick that then i will have to put the password in for the network each time?..

Still convinced the this is a keychain issue.

OK, yes I see that thanks.

BUt but if I uncheck that do I have to enter the password each time. It says to me that next time I go say to my friends house it will not have remembered the network. I want that... What I do t want is a load of airport/cafes etc etc in the list. They should be able to be moved without fuss.

As you have stated  in your first question list of unwanted networks are coming back , they should go away . location should be automatic & remember network this computer has joined . please check this box once again.

Follow Barney. After removing the networks in the list, with the minus sign, restart the mac!

You can have the remember networks checked after the restart.

Ok, thank you very much guys. Sorry for the confusion on my part.

I deleted the networks from both devices with the minus sign as you said. Restarted the devices and have now 'checked' the box again. Its been a while now and no reappearance of the old networks. I should be able to control this now in the future now I know.

After Googling i was get lead into the key chain area which was getting confusing. This is much easier and fingers crossed it stays that way.

    Thank you very much guys.

    Mac.

This does not work for me. I remove the old network, and apply, but it is back in the list when I click on "Advanced" again. I add a new network, and apply, and it is not in the list when I click on "Advanced" again.

I tried immediately restarting after clicking "Apply". It doesn't change the result.

In another thread, it was suggested that an iPhone that had the old network prevented the removal from the MacBook. I reset the iPhone's network settings to delete all networks, and I turned it off. That did not help either.

I do not use iCloud. The old network does not even exist anymore (lightning fried that router).
