Q: How to fix front-facing camera not loading on iPhone 5s?

Hello,

I recently received a refurbished iPhone 5s through Verizon's replacement provider Asurion and after using the phone for one day I began to experience a problem with the front camera. It wouldn't load at all. The first day I got the phone I restored it from a back up I had of my previous iPhone (5c). I made a couple FaceTime calls and also took a couple selfies. Everything seemed fine. The next day when I woke up and tried to send a selfie via Snapchat I wasn't able to activate the front camera. Thinking that the problem lied within Snapchat itself I switched to the default camera app to see if it would produce a different result. It did not. After days and days of resets and restorations I am still facing the same problem, the lack of my front camera. I have been unable to find any viable resources for this problem and just figured I'd bite the bullet and make my own post about this problem. Can anyone help?

    Hi, Eight1een!

I use both cameras on my iPhone every day, so I know it's important that they both work. Based on your post, I am understanding that your front-facing camera isn't loading as expected in multiple apps, including the native Camera app. There could be a few things going on to cause that, and I've got some troubleshooting that can help.

Following the instructions in the article linked below should help.

Get help with the camera on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Based on what you've described, I'd focus on the "You see a closed lens or black screen" section:

You see a closed lens or black screen

If you see a closed lens or black screen when you open the Camera app, try these steps:

    1. Make sure that there’s nothing blocking the camera lens. If you’re using a case, try removing it.
    2. Force the app to close, then open the Camera app again.
    3. Restart your device, then open the Camera app again.
    4. If your device has a front and rear camera, try both cameras by tapping  . If you see the closed lens or black screen on only one camera, take your device to an Apple Retail Store or Authorized Service Providerfor more help.

    Have a great day!
