Q: message on iPhone 6  says: You must change your iPhone unlock passcode at this time.

My iPhone 6+ keeps stating that the following:  You must change your iPhone unlock passcode at this time.  Why am I receiving this message?

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 9.3.2

IF you have a work exchange email account installed on your phone then it can be required for you to change your password.

I saw that answer somewhere else, and it may be related, but not in the way you're saying.  I got this same message (with no time limit and no option to defer or cancel) when I was at work, but this was on my personal phone -- which is about as box-stock as any iPhone 6 you will find in use -- and I wasn't connected to any wi-fi network at the time.  I'm patched to the current iOS (9.3.2 - 13F69) and the only 3rd party app I have installed is a driver/utility for our wireless printer.

But I have my Wi-Fi settings configured to ask before joining any new network, and we had a contractor in the building yesterday (6/17/16) doing I know not what with cabling and so forth.  So I'm wondering if my phone detected the network and was attempting to ask me if I wanted to join it, but collided with whatever it is that MS Exchange uses to poll devices and this was what fell out of their conversation.

The reason I suspect this could be at the root of it is that I did a forced restart (as suggested by one of the articles I glanced at in searching for a solution), which didn't fix it at that time; the message dialog was still there, and still locking me out.  But once I left the building things got even stranger.  When I got to the parking deck, I plugged my phone into the USB port in my truck to charge it, and the music player started up (this is normal) so I pressed the Home button, and I saw the message dialog close down on its own.  The phone asked for my passcode in the usual fashion, I entered it, and everything returned to normal.  I haven't had a recurrence since.

So I suspect that the answer lies at the intersection of wi-fi settings, Exchange, and whatever work was happening at the office.  If the problem returns on Monday when I'm back to work, then I'll have more to work with.  For now, though, the problem seems to have resolved -- but I don't like when things "fix themselves".  More news as it happens.

Two days back at work, and there have been no recurrences of this anomaly.  Our network admin is as stumped as I am.  He said our Exchange server wouldn't have pushed a policy for a passcode in any event, but it wouldn't have pushed ANYTHING unless I was signed into the network, so I'm filing it under Heavy Mystery Time.

Hello! I get this issue too, on my iPhone 5. I tell it 'no' and put in my passcode as normally, and continue on with my day.

This has happened 4 or 5 times.

This is normal after Apple integrated 6 digit passcodes. I think the disconnect is when you decline the 6 digit passcode on the Hello screen after updating to ios 9. The prompt to change you passcode appears to be a simple reminder.

    Go Settings > Touch ID and Passcode > <enter passcode> > Change Passcode > <enter passcode>

You can enter enter a NEW 6 digit passcode or click passcode options and select 4 digit passcode.

Reset the same passcode that you've been using and you're good to go.
