Q: iTunes Match

I had an issue several weeks ago that my iPhone 4s lost connection when I was near the border of the US. When I rebooted it all my iTune Match tunes were gone. The titles appeared but were grayed out and my playlists, which are many, were empty. I tried to reload and tried everything suggested by Apple but to no avail. I have an exceptionally large library so this is the only way I can have access to all my tunes. Now I only have the most recent purchased tunes available. Even music I purchased from iTunes over the last 11 years is for the most part gone from the cloud. I have had Match since the beginning and have never had this kind of problem. Any clues? I am seeing many others have recently had similar issues.

    Hello Russell Johnson2!

I know how important it is to be sure music is syncing correctly to your iPhone 4S. Without knowing exactly what steps you've tried, I would recommend following this article: Get help with iTunes Match

If you can’t see your iTunes Match library on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If your iTunes Match library is missing, restart your iOS device

If you still can't see it after the restart:

    1. Turn off iCloud Music Library and then turn it back on.

      1. Go to Settings > Music.
      2.
      3. Turn off iCloud Music Library.
      4.
      5. Close Settings.
      6.
      7. Go to Settings > Music.
      8.
      9. Turn on iCloud Music Library.
    2. Sign out of iTunes and then sign back in.

    Also, check out these steps:

If some of your songs are missing or the song names are dimmed

If songs that you bought are missing or the song names appear in grey text, they might use digital rights management (DRM). You need to authorize your computer before you can play these songs.

After you authorize, choose File > Library > Update iCloud Music Library from the menu bar at the top of your computer screen.

    Hope these steps help! Cheers!

Thanks for the advise but I have tried all those things. Somehow my original library was deleted from iCloud but the file names still remain so I attempted to reload my whole library (345gb) and it was several days of updating/uploading. Then I still had the same issues. All these songs were originally available to me before this connection issue so I don't think digital rights is the problem. Has iTunes lost rights to many of the songs it earlier sold? Also a large number amount of my library was added via hard purchase CDs. I am just totally frustrated with this process. If you know how to erase the iCloud/Match library completely so I can start with a clean slate I think that might have a better chance. At this point I am getting listings of tunes(duplicates) having been previously in the cloud but no longer available. Another note, I am using a library on an external hard drive as I don't have enough space on my computer to hold the whole library. Is this a problem?

    Hello again!

Using an external hard drive for your music shouldn't make a difference as far as Match goes, as long as the drive has been synced to iTunes and loaded to Match. You might want to try turning off iTunes Match on all your devices as well as the computer, make sure the external HD is connected, then turn iTunes Match back on through the computer. Check for the music to reload and then turn it back on through your devices and see if the music reloads there as well.

Use iTunes Match on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If you're using iTunes 12.3 or later, iTunes Match turns on automatically the first time you sign into iTunes on a new computer with the Apple ID that you use for iTunes Match.

If you need to turn on iTunes Match manually, change your iCloud Music Library settings using these steps:

    1. Open iTunes. Make sure you have the latest version
    2. Sign in to iTunes with the Apple ID and password that you use for iTunes Match.
    3. Mac: From the menu bar at the top of your computer screen, choose iTunes > Preferences.
Windows: From the menu bar at the top of the iTunes window, choose Edit > Preferences. Learn what to do if you can’t see the menu bar.
    4. Click the General tab, then select iCloud Music Library.

After you sign in with the Apple ID and password that you use with iTunes Match and turn on iCloud Music Library, iTunes matches and uploads your library. You can watch the progress of the matching and uploading in the upper-right corner of iTunes, and you can pause and resume this process at any time.

When iTunes is done, your matched and uploaded music appears in iTunes in the My Music tab. A download icon   appears next to any content that's in your iCloud Music Library and not on your computer.

    Cheers!

Thanks for the suggestions. I will try having all my devices turned off of Match and see if that will allow me to reload my library correctly. We have had Match for a long time and I thought completely familiar with it's functioning. But updates really to seem to disrupt smooth workings all too often.

Thanks again and I will let you know if this works.

Thanks for the advice. After turning off all my devices except the core library and eliminating any duplicates that made the library too large for Match I was able to finally get Match to load my tunes. Still didn't get all the playlists to load but need to find the back-up with the most recent .itl file. When I backed my phone up the other day when this search issue reoccurred iTunes deleted my earlier back-up. Bummer.

Thanks for the help but now I am trying to back-up my phone to the cloud and it won't complete the back-up. Seems many people have had this problem.
