Q: iPhone 6 mail setup for IMAP

I have a new iPhone 6 Plus with iOS 9.3.2. I want to set up an existing email account using IMAP, but am not given a choice; the iPhone assumes POP. The POP setup works, but I want to synchronize the mail status between the iPhone and the same account on my computer. I am using IMAP on the computer, and it works fine, so I know the settings are correct. Any suggestions?

If you create an email account on an iPhone it will automatically create an IMAP account if the server "says" that it supports IMAP, otherwise it will create a POP account. You may need to verify that you are using the correct server URL, as sometimes IMAP and POP are provided through different servers. There is a way to "force" IMAP or POP, but for IMAP it shouldn't be necessary. The more common problem is people who want a POP client but don't know how to force iOS to create one. Both are covered in this tip: Forcing creation of a POP or IMAP email account

Thanks Lawrence! That did the trick. One thing which probably misled the software is that Knology (now WOW) still uses "pop3.knology.net" even for the IMAP server! Only the port number changes (143 vs 110). Oh well, it works now, so thanks again
