Unless you installed El Capitan to another drive, the Recovery partition should have also been updated to 10.11.5.

If you did install El Capitan to another drive or partition, restart and hold down the Option key to enter the startup manager. You should see two recovery partitions. Choose 10.11.5 and boot to that.

I'm sorry I installed El Capitan 10.11.5 TWICE.. IT DID NOT install Recovery Partition 10.11.5 only installed Another 10.10.3..

I'm not sure what's going on But I need to let you know I have 3 Partitions 10.9/10.10 and 10.11.. for some reason.. it Will NOT

install Recovery partition 10.11.5?? Only 10.10 Recovery?? Can you Send me a Recovery Partition for this?

Otherwise I'm going to have to Delete the 10.11 Partition.. I cannot use it!  Also I have a Partition Manager rEFInd 0.10.3 that I use

But have to install from my Yosemite Partition.. in order to use it..??

    Thanks for trying anyway, LL

PS.. recovery partition 10.10 does NOT recognize " csrutil status "

Could you post the output of the following two commands for us? You can do it from within Yosemite, it doesn't have to be from the recovery partition.

    "diskutil list"

    "diskutil info -all"

Take a screenshot from those outputs and post that to the forum.

The commands Leopardus may, or may not confirm what I'll mention next, but probably will.

I have 3 Partitions 10.9/10.10 and 10.11.. for some reason.. it Will NOT install Recovery partition 10.11.5?? Only 10.10 Recovery??

It partly depends on how old your Mac is, and if, and where you have Windows installed.  On our 2010 Mac Pro, if you install Windows via Boot Camp, it is always placed at the end of the drive/partition. If you then install OS X on that same drive/partition, it cannot create the Recovery partition at all. The installer wants to put it at the end of the drive, but Windows is already there, and it won't place the Recovery partition above it. Newer Macs will allow the Recovery partition to be created wherever it will fit.

So if this sounds like your setup, that may be what's going on. A Windows install was already on the same drive/partition you decided to install El Capitan on and is preventing the Recovery partition from being created. The Recovery partition you are able to boot to is on the same drive/partition Yosemite is on.

A kind of big hint this is happening is that when you go to install OS X on a drive where Windows already exists, the OS X installer will toss out a message that "All features may not be available."

I'm going to try and explain myself once more.. First I have a total of 8 Partitions..

    sda1 - EFI - 10.9/10.10/10.11/Rec-Part-10.9/10.10..  one Swap partition..

and one Linux/Ubuntu partition.. I do a lot of testing on Linux and ubuntu.. as well as OS X.. Like I did on 10.10 Beta's..

I have tried to be patient with This version --> 10.11.5.. I have decided that this OS X is the worst OS X to date.. designed

for safety's sake - "SIP" - completely forgot personality and usefulness.. I'm really sorry too.. it had so much potential

.. NO SALE!  as I said before.. IF and only if.. you can provide me with a downloadable Recovery-Partition for 10.11.5..

I will be Deleting this OS X 10.11.5 version!.. it's completely useless to without ability to..(turn-OFF-SIP.."csrutil disable")

    Thanks for trying, LL

PS.. I DO NOT Have ANY WINDOWS Partitions

    I'm writing you folks here again.. I actually had 10 partitions.. 1 EFI/10.9/BOOTCAMP/10.10/10.11/1 Swap/Recovery-Part-10.9/10.10/

and Linux/Ubuntu partition.. NO Windows.. also need to say that El Capitan Needs to provide a Separate CD/DVD Recovery Disk

Much the same as they did with 10.6x Snow Leopard.. Then you could actually USE the syntax of " csrutil status " .. without Hassle

of trying to FIND Rec..Part.. 10.11.5..  Thank you, and good luck w/future OS X versions - LL

PS.. I DO NOT Have ANY WINDOWS Partitions

And now we know. You hadn't said you didn't have Windows installed, so I was relaying a known issue with somewhat older Macs that would be a valid reason why you didn't get a 10.11.x Recovery partition installed along with the OS.

We also now know how many partitions you have, and from the second line of this post, all on one drive. Haven't ever run Linux, so had to look up and see what a Swap partition is. Simple enough.

The Recovery partition for El Capitan is the same size as all versions have been so far - about 650 MB. So I can't quickly think of a reason why the current recovery partition was not updated to 10.11.x.

Apple does use a hybrid GUID/MBR partition table, which is what allows Windows (before Windows 10, which also requires GUID) to see the drive as if it had been partitioned as an MBR partition scheme, and OS X will see the same drive as GUID. How any of that may apply, if at all, I don't know.

Your recovery partition though is stuck in between 10.11 and 10.10. The El Capitan installer may be failing to update the Recovery partition because it doesn't have room to shuffle anything.

to answer your query.. no room for 10.11.5 Rec-Part.. not true But what I finally did DO..

was to take a 32GB usb flash drive, and INSTALL 10.11.5 on it.. and BEHOLD.. there was

the 10.11.5 Recovery Partition.. and Finally able to use - -> " csrutil status "

I wanted to send you a PNG graphic of the Boot Screen I installed using BootXChanger

on El Capitan.. which shows a Graphic of me (w/magnifying glass) and Pressing a keboard

below.. and another Graphic below it of a SanDisk USB Flash drive - it boots Great.. of course

I must say that using a USB, rather than HD.. it's a bit slow.. even when I use it on my macmini

(2012) w/16GB-ram.. But HEY it works!  Thanks again..LL

Well, it was something of a guess, which is why I said may.

Great that you found a way around the issue! Still can't figure out why it won't update the Recovery partition on the main drive.

Hello again Kurt..(Happy Father's Day, if that's appropriate)

I wanted to Let you know.. I found a way around my Problem w/Recovery Partition 10.11.5..

1st.. I made a Backup of my 10.11 USB.. then ERASED my Yosemite 10.10x.. next I installed 10.11.5 on

THAT partition.. now remember That USB version of EL Capitan I had already DISABLED the SIP with

" csrutil disable " in the terminal.. then Rebooted my MacMini before I backed it up!

Next after install, I noticed that there Still was NO 10.11.5 Rec-Part?? But everything worked anyway..

Strangely The ONLY Recovery Partition Visible was Rec-Part 10.9?? very ODD.. same amount of

Partitions shown as before -> 10! .. all was working fine Except for my Printer.. which usually activates

through my Router.. the Printer works on all other Partitions.. But Not on EL Capitan.. ??

I'm thoroughly confused??  For some strange reason everything else works?

not sure what's going on here.. My Printer is a Black/White Canon Laser.. Have any suggestions?

    Thanks again, LL

PS.. I installed both necessary drivers - Mac_MF_Ver1060 and Mac_ScanGear_V270 dmg before

            Trying the Printer too!

    Indeed it is. Thanks!

"Odd" almost doesn't describe it. You had a 10.10 Recovery partition, and that has now, somehow, impossibly morphed to a 10.9 Recovery partition. That I know of, there can only be one Recovery partition on a physical drive. So where did this one come from? I can only conclude we're dealing with more than one physical drive. But who knows, the Linux and Ubuntu partitions may be fooling the Mac OS into doing something it wouldn't normally do regarding Recovery partitions.

I'm just curious. Could you take a screen shot of your normally mounted drives and post it? Here's the three drives I have in my Mac Pro.

    Screen Shot.png

From this, I would expect to find as many as three Recovery partitions if I had OS X installed on the top drive, too.

Sorry Kurt.. I've been trying to FIX this **** thing for 3 day and nights..!!

But to answer your question.. I eliminated YOSEMITE.. when I installed el capitan.. w/both 10.8x and 10.9x in the other partitions

so the Newest version then was 10.9.5!  and as far as taking a screen shot no.. I'm now so disgusted w/ El Capitan that I will

be Eliminating it too.. it's just Much too slow for me.. maybe if they ever come out with a better version I'll try that..

I have an older mac mini and also an iMac w/Snow Leopard and Mountain Lion installed they both run circles around this El Capitan

and have only 4GB ram.. unlike my newer mac mini w/16GB ram.. Thanks for all your help.. But I'm finally giving up and getting some

    sleep.. LL

    and have only 4GB ram

There's the main problem. The bare minimum requirements of 2 GB RAM would drive anyone to distraction trying to use El Capitan. 4 GB isn't much better if you're doing more than just browsing the web and email. For real world use, 8 GB is the minimum a computer should have for El Cap.
