Q: Problem SSD Macbook Pro

Hello.

Recently I made the purchase of a Samsung SSD 850 evo and performed the installation according to Samsung's own tips (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mihb8YQzDxw&list=LL3FXtTPsf_dcteBdBwPvH4g&index= 1). "Could not unmount the volume" or when trying to clone the HD, "the source disk is only read / write".

Overall I had a lot of difficulty in performing the reading of the SSD and always failed in the installation of OS X.

What procedures should I follow?

My Macbook Pro is the beginning of 2011 model 13 '

Thank you.

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5), SSD Samsung 850 evo

If formatted correctly —my only suspicion is your new SSD is bad out of the box. Failed.

Interesting it would successfully format and not be R/W.

Non-the-less return it for one that works.

The other possibility is the enclosure is bad (or  the SATA cable is bad.)  You could try a different enclosure;  a different USB cable or different port connection.

Referring you back to the very first screenshot that you posted. The problem is glaringly obvious.

You have to enable ownership for a startup volume. You get to this by right-click on the icon for the disk on the desktop => Select - Get Info. Scroll down to Sharing and permissions and Untick the box regarding ownership. You should then be able to install.

Friend, it seems that now the macbook recognizes smoothly SSD.

Do you think this was the cause of the installation failed notice it was not possible to unmount the volume?

I will again perform the test in a bit.

I thank a lot to help.

Must admit Leroydouglas, that living in a house where we are multilingual does help sometimes. Mostly, speaking in one of the lesser used ones by us, people ask "where are you from exactly?" The first five or so is never a problem for us.

Just glad that the OP could be assisted. Most of the work was actually done by yourself and the other usual suspects.

In a little while I will again perform the OS X installation test the SSD. Return to the forum to report the result.

Friends did not work after I accomplish what the Leopardus advised.

The SSD continued to be named. Then I tested the same SSD in a Macbook 2010 model and it worked. I installed OS X on MacBook model 2010 and worked perfectly. As shown in the image below.

After that I was testing the SSD with OS X already installed on my macbook model early 2011, not funcinou. As shown in the image below.

Friends, what can be the problem? Some Spare advised me to look at the compatibility of 850 evo with the Macbook Pro 2011 and the firmware version. What do you think?

Note: I'm sorry for the PT-BR in images

    Good morning Misaeljr,

Just confirm that you have also done the Firmware update to the correct version?

    Screen Shot 2016-06-16 at 09.48.08.png

The SSD is fine, has been proven by your installation in the other MBP. Only two remaining things:

    1. Firmware, as indicated above.
    2. Connection of the SSD, i.e. the internal cable could be suspect. However, if you have installed it in the same position (same ribbon and connection), than your conventional working rotational HD, then it should be fine.

Hello Leo, thank you for helping me. I do not wait to be able to install the SSD.

Leo, look at this picture the firmware version. Where can I find an update for my model, I tried to install the version available for Apple but it is only supported for OS X versions 10.9.5, and my mine is El Captain.

    imagem8.png

How do I proceed from that?

    Thank you

    Hi misaeljr,

    The pleasure is all mine.

Follow the guidelines in About EFI and SMC firmware updates for Intel-based Mac computers - Apple Support and the corresponding links to download and install the correct firmware updates for your MBP

    Have fun

Friend, I can not install this version of the firmware available on the Apple website for my model (https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1823?locale=pt_BR). This version is for OS X 10.8.5 or 10.9.5 and I use OS X El Capitan 10.11.5. See the image in pt-br.

How do I upgrade my firmware. From what I checked, my firmware is outdated.

    Thank you
