Q: Podcasts Smart Playlists gone from iPod Classic.

I listen to a lot of podcasts, usually on walks. I get behind, but I want to keep listening to them in the order they were released. I created a sweet smart playlist for this where all of the podcasts that I listen to were arranged in the order they were released, and each one would drop out of the list once it had been completed. This made it super handy and brain dead simple.

However, after the latest iTunes update, my smart playlist is no longer showing up on my iPod (Classic 160GB). It DOES still show in iTunes however. I REALLY want that smart playlist back. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

iPod classic, Windows 10

The latest build of iTunes has added a new media selector to the start of smart playlist rules. It may be that you need to tweak the rules before it will sync properly with the device again.

Thanks, but any ideas on what I should be tweaking? Everything else syncs fine. Literally all of my other smart playlists sync and show up as they should in my iPod. It's only the podcasts smart playlist that won't sync.

Can you show me the rules of one that doesn't sync? I'm guessing that you might need to change match podcasts to match all media or vice versa. Where does the playlist get picked up for syncing, on the Device > Music tab, the Device > Podcasts tab, or both?

    Thank you.

I must admit I don't fully understand your second question "Where does the playlist get picked up for syncing, on the Device > Music tab, the Device > Podcasts tab, or both?" I'm lost here. How do I find this info?

As far as my recipes I had to add a few odd ones because of things like recordings that weren't technically "podcasts" that I relabeled or very old lecture type podcasts that I didn't want included but it looks like this:

    Genre is podcast

Album is not [Specific Podcasts I don't want included]

    Plays is less than 1

    Year is greater than 2013

(I've tried both Match Podcasts and Match All Media and neither worked)

That's it. Used to work perfectly. Still shows up in iTunes, and still works, but will not sync to the iPod.

If you connect your device to your computer then click the icon that appears in the top row for it, you get taken to a page where you can manage the device. At the top of the left-hand column you will see the device, then summary. Below that are sections to control Music and Podcasts. On each page you can set sync options.

On the Music tab you might typically have Sync Music > Selected playlists, artist, albums, and genres, followed by plenty of check boxes. Is this playlist listed there, and is it ticked to sync?

On the Podcasts tab there is an option to Sync Podcasts, followed by some rules for automatic syncing of recently new/recent/unplayed content and a further section that reads Include Episodes from Playlists. Is the playlist checked off in that section? I'm not sure that will make it appear as a playable list or just ensure that the tracks are included. I'm just trying to ask questions that might be relevant.

My Music section is set to 'entire music library' (and so if I switch the selection to 'Selected playlists, artists, albums and genres' nothing is checked).

And my Podcast is set to Automatically Include 'all unplayed' episodes of 'all podcasts'

Well, oddly enough, I just disconnected my iPod and looked through it and my smart playlist had synced. So I guess playing around with the settings you asked about worked. Thanks.
