    Hello joefromwestpreston,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. I know how important being able to send emails from your iMac is.

Based on what you stated, it seems you may be experiencing an issue with the outgoing server settings for your email account in Mail, since you can receive emails just fine.

Good news there are some easy steps that can help with your issue!

    1. If you haven’t recently, make sure to restart your iMac. Then hold the Shift key on your keyboard and re-open Mail. This opens the Mail app in default settings. Then try sending new emails, along with clearing the Outbox messages.

    2. If your email has a webpage log in, such as gmail.com or outlook.com, test if you can send emails from there, or other devices this specific email account is setup on already. If you cannot, this could be an account related issue.

Also follow the steps in order from this article for this issue:

    Cheers!
