Q: iTunes says I'm up to date when I'm not

I recently upgraded my Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 and I'm running iTunes vs. 12.1.2.27. I have settings set to automatically look for updates, and it used to do that on Windows 8.1. Now on W10, when I manually select "look for updates", the message box comes back saying I am already running the latest version, yet I see there is vs. 12.4.0 out there now.  Why is that?  I am on a Dell Inspiron laptop, W10 64-bit.  Any suggestions? Thought I'd ask before downloading a fresh install and possibly causing other issues.

Thanks

    Hello demenzes

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple support community. I know it's important to keep things up to date so your software is always running as best it can. In cases like this, especially with updating to a new operating system it may be a good idea to do a clean install of iTunes on your computer.

This will take a short time, but it will not remove any of your music or media data in your library. When you re-install iTunes it will all be right there ready to go.

This article will guide you through removing iTunes and it's related programs, 5 in total, and then you can re-install iTunes from the apple website:

Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows 7 and later

If you run into any trouble, the community is here to help.

    Best regards.

Simple answer, iTunes check for updates is broken. It will not detect correctly. Your OS upgrade has nothing to do with it. Manual download and installation is a better solution.
