Q: MBP 7.1 Surround Sound Behringer UCA202

Hello,

I was able to successfully connect a Behringer UCA202 audio device to my 7.1 AV receiver for true surround sound in THX, DTS and Dolby Digital 7.1 via a toslink digital cable.

My question is how do you configure 7.1 Surround sound via HDMI adapter via Display port?...

good question, alex7375. It's my understanding, such as it is, that only certain apps wil do surround sound on the Mac, such as DVD player and VLC. You could try something like soundflower. If you did want to configure it, you'd go to system preferences, then sound, then HDMI out might be there. Of course, I've heard that in some situations that might not work. You'd have to find and install a .kext file to enable HDMI audio output, and some models of MacBook Pro don't support that feature. I don't know exactly what model you do have, so I can't say if it supports it or not.   I think it's any macbook made after 2009. Holding down the option key as you click the speaker icon at the top of your screen should give you a full list of audio inputs and outputs available, so try that hookup to your reciever first ( I think it should be off, though, turn it on after you've hooked it up. You also have to make sure that the cable supports 7 channel HDMI audio output as well. IF it does, then it should show up under system preferences> Sound, then you choose it, and that's it.
