Q: How do I install an old OS on a new Partition

I want to install an old version of Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger on a partition I made on my MacBook running El Capitan, I have Tiger on disk and I don't know how to install it on the blank partition!

If the disk you have is the computer's original one, or if it's a Mac OS X Server 10.4 Universal Binary disk and your computer originally shipped with Tiger, restart with the disk in the drive and the C or Option key held down. Run the installer.

Except as noted above, a Mac OS X 10.4 install disk won't work on your Mac.

Tiger will only install  if it is the original Tiger  disc that came with the  computer.   If the computer came with something newer, you won't be able to install anything older on it.  With one exception, Snow Leopard Server.   See this tip:

Rosetta/PowerPC Applications and Lion and above

Also if your Mac came with Tiger, but you don't have the original Tiger disc you can install Leopard or Snow Leopard client.

AppleCare sells the original Tiger discs if they are still in stock.

Retail Tiger only works with Macs that are PowerPC and are older than the Tiger disc in question, and have at least a Firewire port and external Firewire DVD drive.

Retail Leopard only works on Macs that are older than the Leopard disc and are 867 Mhz or higher (1 Ghz is higher).

MacBook Pros are not PowerPC, they are Intel.
