You seem to be describing issues that were resolved in later updates to the iOS. Have you checked in Settings>General>Software Update for any present updates that may be available? I could be wrong about that as I haven't been able to ask any additional probing questions yet.
If your software is up to date, how did you go about loading up your new iPhone? Did you restore it from a backup? If so, was that backup through iTunes or iCloud? If through iCloud, check Settings>iCloud>Backup (scroll further down towards the bottom) and see if there is an option to cancel restore. Given the size of your choice in storage for this iPhone, I wonder if your iPhone may be working away in the background to restore a very large backup from iCloud to your iPhone. If not, then it's time for the 3Rs. Attempt each step one at a time and see if the issue continues before continuing with the next step. Create a current backup before further troubleshooting in the event that it is discovered later that the contents were not the source of this issue. How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
Restart
- Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
- Drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
- After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.
Reset - Navigate to Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings (does not erase content, just settings and places them in their original default state)
Restore to factory
Use iTunes on your Mac or PC to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support
After restoring your iPhone to factory, avoid any options to restore from a backup. Feel free to login with your accounts and loading your desired contents manually through iTunes, but allow time to see if the issue reemerges. If it does, Contact Apple for support and service - Apple Support. If it continues after restoring as new through iTunes as described, this also means your backup should be fine to restore.
Best of luck
