Q: iCloud for Windows: Authentification error

(Actually, the French message that pops up is "Une erreur s'est produite pendant l'authentification.")

I re-installed (repaired) iCloud for Windows. I enter my ID and password, and I get an "Authentification error" alert. I know the password is correct because it is in use with iTunes and if I remove a letter I get a very different dialog ("Your ID or password is incorrect", actually "Votre identifiant Apple ou votre mot de passe est incorrect").

I see several posts with a similar question, none addresed.  Please help!

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities, Urhixidur.

It looks like you're having difficulties signing into the iCloud Support Tool on your PC. I know how important it is to have data syncing between all devices- I'll certainly do my best to help.

The first thing I would recommend is following the steps in this article: iCloud: Account troubleshooting While not everything in that article addresses your particular problem, there are steps for you to use.

The next step would be checking to see if you have a firewall enabled through either your Windows software or through any anti-virus/anti-malware software you have installed. Sometimes firewalls can prevent your computer from communicating with our iCloud servers. Follow the steps in the following link to temporarily disable your Windows firewall if it's enabled:

Turn Windows Firewall on or off

Once you have the firewall disabled, try signing into the iCloud Support tool again. If you get the same error, temporarily disable any anti-virus/anti-malware software you have installed on your PC too. You can usually find steps on how to do that by visiting the software makers web site. Test out the iCloud Support Tool once more to see if you get the same error.

If the same error appears, with the firewall still disabled, I would recommend the following steps next:

    1. Delete the iCloud Support Tool completely and then restart your PC.

    2. Download iCloud for Windows then restart your PC again.

    Take care!

Did all that and I'm still stuck with the same problem. Interestingly, during the removal of iCloud I was in the odd situation that iCloud thought itself connected (insisting I disconnect before removing itself) and kept asking for connection. Strange.

Now that it's been removed and re-installed, I'm back to square one, with an Authentication Error. Diddling with the Firewall or the Anti-Virus makes absolutely no difference. (I also have admin rights, so that's not the issue either)

So, any help? I'm still stuck without iCloud access from my PC. My Outlook calendar is getting more and more out of sync.

How can I get rid of this Authentification error?

Nope. First try: « Une erreur s'est produite lors de la connexion au serveur d'identifiant Apple. »

Second and later tries: « Une erreur s'est produite pendant l'authentification. Réessayez. »
