Try making sure your drive is working and spinning up and if it is try other working ports on your MacBook Pro.

Does it appear in Disk Utility?

    Have you tried all ports?

    Have you tried different cables?

Have you tried it on another Mac?

Take out the bare HDD from the enclosure and install it in a known functional enclosure and test.

    Ciao.

    - Just what Apple external drive do you have?

    - Is it powered by the USB bus? Or by an AC power adopter?

    - Does it show in System Profiler under USB? You should see the chipset in the enclosure as well as the HD itself

    - Any light lit o the enclosure?

    - Does it work when connected to another computer?

    - Do other HDs work when connected to the computer?
