Q: My iMac will not complete booting up
Following an unexpected break in power, I now cannot complete booting up my iMac. I have tried starting in Safe mode a few times, and loading bar appears, but stops loading part way, then eventually computer switches off. I have tried resetting PRAM once. Same thing happens. Not very experienced, so if you have a possible solution I can try, I would be grateful for detailed instructions. I do not have an additional drive, and don't want to lose any files, if I can avoid doing so.

Yes, sorry I forgot to include this...
The Recovery Disk will have a Utilities menu and you should choose Disk Utility > First Aid. If that reports your hard drive is ok, or it reports it is fixed, then try booting normally. If not yes, try re-installing OS X as it may still may be a software problem due to the hard shutdown.

And yes, as I said, there's a big danger of loosing your data.
