Q: Booting and white screen issues after updating to v10.11.5?

I cannot say 100% that my issues are related to the latest update, but I thought I would ask.

I updated about 4 or 5 days ago, and although the issues didn't start immediately, they did start after the update. It's worth noting I've never had issues like this before.

Here are some of my issues on my MacBook Pro (17-inch, Early 2011), 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7, 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB

1. monitor will sometimes go haywire and do a strange split screen, where the mouse can go from the left side of the screen and reappear on the right side of the screen because the desktop is now split in half

2. computer will freeze and monitor will blink out to show a blue zigzagged striped background

3. computer will freeze during booting and never restart. It will occasionally boot fine, but the computer will freeze up at some point while using

4. computer during booting will blink out to a white screen and never restart

Thanks for any help.

Now I am beginning to think my issues are related to one user log in. Only 2 people use the computer, and my log in seems to be fine. No crashes or anything.

The issues start when my wife logs in to her user account.

    Thought I would mention it.

    Any help/replies would be appreciated.

    Hello Everyone:

I have the same issue too with my early 2011 Mac Book Pro.  I took it to Apple store yesterday and they ran all the diagnostics.  They said everything is fine. Unfortunately, it restarted okay in front of them.

I am feeling that the problem is related to the latest upgrade. Are engineers at Apple listening? Hello folks we need a patch.

    Thanks.

    Suprnova,

I ended up taking mine to the apple store as well, and when they ran their tests, they found a bad logic board. Turns out they have had a lot of problems with that part and extended a fix it program through 2016, so they replaced my logic board for free.

    Haven't had a problem since.

Hope you find the issue to yours.

Thank you so very much for the reply.

I asked the genius bar expert on what happens if the logic board is broken.  He said it will cost me upwards of $350 as this is an early 2011 machine.

I have been reading that Apple has got hit with class action lawsuit regarding problems with early 2011 Macbook Pro machines. There are also talks of them still fixing things for free?

Is this the case? Are they fixing things for free or will charge me money.

    Anyone?? Thanks in advance.

Mine is also an early 2011, so not sure why it would be a different story than the apple store I went to in Carlsbad, Ca.

Again, they fixed mine for free. The receipt said it was a $600 fix....and I paid nothing.

I did further research and wow found this:

    http://www.apple.com/support/macbookpro-videoissues/

Apparently, Apple has determined that a small percentage of MacBook Pro systems may exhibit distorted video, no video, or unexpected system restarts. These MacBook Pro systems were sold between February 2011 and December 2013. And they are running Macbook Pro repair extension program for few systems.
