Q: What's up with this new forum layout?

Apple-wake up!  What happened to the traditional forum layout?  Was it broken?  People come to a forum to search for information and look for answers by looking through previous posts.  The new layout only lets a person see at most a couple hours of posts on a page (like maybe the last 10?)!  What the heck?  Guess what?  Forums = information.  The new forum layout = white space and white space does not equal information.  If I wanted to answer someone's post I would not even know where to begin because I couldn't find it!  In a mater of minutes the post is rolled back to Page 2 never to be seen again.

Basically, the new forum layout *****.  Why was it changed?

    Look at these two User Tips for help in managing the layout

    Stylish for Firefox, Stylish for Chrome, Stylish for Safari, or Stylish for Opera. It's all free, by the way.

    I would start with "Minimal" which I have already committed to a Stylish "style"

    1. get Stylish
    2. go here to install Apple Support Communities - Minimal - Themes and Skins for Apple - userstyles.org INTO Stylish

    Thank you so much.  It is an absolute crime we have to become CSS programmers just to use an Apple forum.  I love Apple but like I tried to say above the new layout is just going to hinder the forum and it ***** (rhymes with ducks).  Sometimes Apple is just too full of themselves.

    In this case it seems like they have confused forum participants (technically literate users) with the average user who wants NO information and just wants it to work.  Forums are meant to be technical and full of information.  Keep it that way Apple!

    Newbie question:  How do I edit the script so the default page loads with "/content" appended to the end of the URL?  I see "Write new style for this URL" but what do I type exactly?

    If you want to get rid of the worst annoyances without complications, create a plain text file in TextEdit. Copy the following into it:

    .jive-rendered-content {color: black; font-weight: 500 !important; }

    .jive-rendered-content p {color: black; font-weight: 500 !important; }

    .j-inresponse-to {font-weight: 500 !important;}

    .persist-question {display: none !important;}

    .more-answers {display: none !important;}

    .all-replies-container {display: inherit !important;}

    td.j-td-date > span {display: inherit !important; font-weight: bold !important; font-size: 13pt !important;}

    .tiny_mce_content {font-size: inherit !important}

    .j-td-title {font-size: 15pt !important; font-weight: bold !important;}

    .j-td-title strong {font-weight: bold !important; font-size: 15pt !important; color: #660066;}

    body.j-body-home.j-body-inbox.en-lang div#body-apple .title {font-size: 13pt !important; font-weight: 600 !important; color:black !important;}

    body.j-body-home.j-body-inbox.en-lang div#body-apple .clearfix {font-size: 13pt !important; font-weight: 600 !important; color:black !important;}

    body.j-body-home.j-body-inbox.en-lang div#body-apple .j-comm-time {font-size: 13pt !important; font-weight: 600 !important; color:black !important;}

    Save it as (for example) ASCstyle.css . Place it anywhere convenient. Now open Safari Preferences, and go to the Advanced tab. Set the 'Style sheet' drop-down menu to 'Other...' and select your file.

    This enlarges some fonts and emboldens the posts in the threads. It removes the drop-down 'Reply' pane, and show all posts at all times in a thread (with 'Solved' and 'Helfpuls' duplicated at the top). In the thread lists unvisited posts are shown in purple and larger font, and the most recent poster's name is shown.

    All this has no effect on any other web pages, and is quite safe. You can turn it off simply by changing to 'None' in the Prefs pane.

    Thanks but I was hoping to continue the solution outlined by ChiltinsCC in Firefox

    You don't edit the script for this. The following applies only to the thread lists pages, not the threads themselves, e.g:

    discussions.apple.com/community/mac_os/os_x_el_capitan

    (removed the http:// so that the actual URL will show rather than the title).

    You need to amend the following to the basic URL:

    /content?filterID=contentstatus%5Bpublished%5D~objecttype~objecttype%5Bthread%5D

    The simplest way to handle it is to go to each thread list you're interested in, add this to the URL, then bookmark it. (All the above applies both to the Stylish version of the process and my simplified version.)

    Nevermind.  I used the stylesheet found here.  It seems more extensive and works fine.

    That is NOT a CSS function...

    Go here > Site map of Communities and Categories

    Make browser bookmarks for your favorite forums

    This is an excerpt from that User Tip

    ...

    You may find these links to your own content useful, the first three will highlight threads with new activity:

    Authored Discussions
    Participated Discussions

    Following Discussions
    Recently Viewed Discussions

    Keep asking here if we can help

    I prefer a different highlight color - a "Merlot" if you will... if you know about hex, you can pick your own.

    Here is my Merlot to replace the first line of "real code"

    .j-td-title strong {font-weight: bold; color: #990000;}                /* Updated discussion content in bold & Merlot*/

    1. copy the above line
    2. click the Stylish icon in the toolbar
    3. Manage styles
    4. Edit "Minimal"
    5. triple click the line
    6. paste
    7. save

    here's a handy hex-color site > http://www.color-hex.com/

    You cannot force the site to add /content to the URL via CSS, or set other options that make the display show updated comment, but you can save bookmarks to those views once you have them. See this Site map of Communities and Categories for ready-made links that use can save locally if you wish.

    That one is OLD, Robert... likely to be taken down  (I am having trouble figuring out how to even EDIT after publishing the doggone things!)

    My plan is to make a "suite" of choices ranging from tt2's "Minimal", Hiroto's "Nothingness" to variations on Robert's

    It will require a bunch of commenting out trial-and-error

    I may take suggestions for a "feature sets"...

    • Yes Header
    • No footer
    • Black text
    • leave text color alone
    • No badges
    • etc
    • etc

    You can start if you want

    This is crazy ridiculous!  The original question I came here to get answered wasn't even this topic!  I just came to this subforum to vent really.  My original question in the other forum has yet to get an answer!
