Q: ios stuck at 5.1.1

hi I recently picked up two I pod touches at a yard sale. with plans on hooking one to my trucks in dash dvd player but when connected it says I need the pioneer app. when I try and install app it says I need ios 7 or better. when I hit the check for upgrades button it say that ios 5.1.1 is up to date. I have tried updating it by using wifi and connected to my computer using iTunes. I'm at a loss that I cant seem to upgrade two ipods and I don't really have the funds to go buy a brand new ipod. any help would be grately appreciated

If they are third generation iPods then they will only update to 5.1.1

Sounds like you purchased two 3rd Generation iPod Touch devices, and the maximum iOS that they can go to is 5.1.1

thanks I don't know a lot about apple products but figured that they would support all of the versions of their devices not just the recent ones

Unfortunately that is not quite the case - the newer versions of iOS do have certain increased requirements of hardware that the older devices do not have -
