Q: Why does my 64GB ipad require 124GB to backup?

I have a 64GB iPad that says it has 7 GB of storage available. However in iCloud storage it says my iPad backup is using 124GB. Why is that? Does the backup keep two copies or something?

    It keeps the the last 3 back ups (in one user observable file), however it should only back up incrementally so 124 GB sound a bit ridiculous to me. Are you able to look to see if there are any old back ups that haven't been removed or back ups for other devices.
