Q: iPhone 6 plus intermittent unresponsive screen

So a couple days ago, my iPhone 6+ began having intermittent screen responsiveness. First time, I received a phone call and couldn't answer it because the swipe wouldn't work. I turned it off and back on with no luck. I reset it and that fixed it. That was the only issue that day. I the last few days it's becoming more frequent. Today alone I've had to reset it eight times.

What it's doing;

  • touch screen is unresponsive to touch entirely.
  • touch screen responds after a delay
  • I tap an app icon and the app two rows up opens instead.
  • from loch screen-can't answer phone calls or notifications.

Sometimes it just leave it alone and come back to it and it's fine. Sometimes I leave it alone and come back with same result and I have to reset it. Sometimes I reset it once and trying to unlock with touchscreen (because touch ID doesn't work after reset) doesn't work so I reset it twice. It has worked after the second time, so far.

The phone is in perfect condition. Never been dropped. Was updated to 8.3 the day it was released so the issue didn't arise immediately after an update.

Anyone having these issues?

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 8.3

Thanks for posting your experience, and especially the warnings. If you are skilled working with microelectronics this is a viable alternative, but each user must weigh the risks vs. benefits, because if you fail you can no longer get a discounted replacement from Apple. And don't do it without first finding instructions on the 'net on how to approach it. Another alternative is to take it to an independent shop if you are not sure of your skills. I AM sure of mine, and I still killed a Sony Reader changing the battery a few weeks ago.

I posted the same fix and Apple removed it. Mine has been working great for two weeks. It seems they don't want people to get help here as they remove all the helpful posts and off no solution of their own. Sad really because I was a real fan and own many of their products.

Such information that encourages users to open and work on their Apple products on their own goes against the Terms of Use policy of these forums. As this is an Apple owned forum space, they have the right to delete posts that may do more harm than good if users were to follow such directions with the hope of troubleshooting. IF the specific scenario applies where the previously listed hardwares are in need of replacement or servicing to resolve the issue it will take a skilled hand, the right tools, and correct parts. Safety measures have to be considered. Apple cannot place itself in the crosshair by allowing a monitored forum space to encourage someone to potentially cause harm to their device or to themselves.

I realize that was not rocknn's intent.

I did what benm1972 did (Re: iPhone 6 plus intermittent unresponsive screen). First I put my iPhone 6 Plus on a flat surface (table) to determine which opposing corners were not both on the table at the same time. Then, I twisted the phone at those corners. It was a significant twist, but not too much. Then, it worked. After a while, it failed again. It wasn't consistent in working again when I twisted it, so I tried other things people suggested, like pressing it in certain locations. Sometimes it worked, sometimes not. I didn't find any "sure things" that worked. I have AT&T insurance, so I just filled out the claim form online and will get a brand new iPhone 6S Plus in 1-2 biz days.

I had also tried the Apple store previously. The tech tried to re-set the screen but it didn't fix the problem.

Unfortunately, we were unable to repair your iPhone. Our technicians noticed that the iPhone was subjected to modifications that altered its functionality or capability. This means the repair can't be covered by the warranty or an AppleCare product. We'll send the iPhone back to you right away. We apologize for any inconvenience"

this this was the response I got from Apple after sending a refurbished replacement back to them.  im guessing the don't back their own repairs

woah this thread keeps growing and growing. I've been lurking to see if they have publicly came out and genius employees are finally replacing it free of charge but its looks like that may not be the case still. I am going to try my luck to see if I can get a replacement. In the meantime, I found that closing all the apps you have running and only leaving 1 or 2 open seems to help. I haven't had any issues since I started doing this. I know its not recommend to close the apps due to battery but I have no other option other than paying Apple or my carrier insurance money for a problem that is the manufacturers fault. I refuse to do this.

I foresee another possible class action suit against Apple for this issue depending on how it plays out. This isn't a software issue, it's a hardware issue due to problems with the soldering of the touch IC chip. The phone heats up, loosen the soldering points and then causes intermittent connection issues AKA our screen flashing and the touch input not registering. I haven't even owned my phone for a year and since it was purchased out of country due to a insurance exchange I am SOL with a "Fully" warrantied phone. This is some real nonsense...

iPhone warranties are not now and never have been international. So, your phone may be less than a year old but it's only "Fully" warrantied in the country in which you purchased it.

I would agree but if you read what you quoted, I didn't purchase the phone out of country. It was a US purchased phone exchanged via Verizon through a phone protection plan. I had no information that my phone would be replaced with an internationally purchased (according to the serial number) phone nor was I given an option/choice. Now I have a valid warranty/purchase with no assistance locally.

SO you have also had two phones with the same issue?   How are people arguing that this is not a widespread problem?   And the bigger problem is the way Apple is handling its warranties

Have to be careful. Any unauthorized repair will void any warranty and void any recall repair.

I just went to the Apple Store SOHO and had the same experience that most people are having. I just wanted to add my voice to the "class action chorus." They told me that because I am out of warranty, I would have to pay the standard $330 for a new phone. After about forty minutes of discussion with the service person and his boss I was offered a 10% discount off that price for my trouble. I made it clear that that would still not be satisfactory and left. The only helpful information they gave me at the store was to confirm that indeed my phone was bent, they would not admit causation or even correlation with the chipset issue causing the grey lines or intermittently unresponsive screen. Upon returning home I carefully bent my phone back into shape across a very level marble counter. I found it helpful to bend little by little, while frequently checking your progress. It isn't perfect but it has definitely made the phone much more usable. I only had one grey bar episode in all evening and it was easily remedied. I assume this is a temporary fix but if it gets the phone at least part of the way to a new upgrade, I'm game. Hope this helps.

Then you really should take the matter up with Asurion who gave you the wrong model.
