Hi
To record a run via the Workout app, start and end a workout from within the Workout app on your watch.
For the best performance from your watch (including the heart rate sensor, data from which is used when estimating calories), ensure that you wear your watch snugly on the top of your wrist. With Wrist Detection enabled, if the watch is worn too loosely, it can believe that it has been removed from your wrist, causing the Workout app to pause. Apple suggests that you consider tightening your watch band before starting your workout and loosening it again afterwards.
During general daily wear and when your iPhone is not taken along on certain outdoor workouts, the Activity app relies on your arm motion (measured by the accelerometer) to track movement for the purpose of estimating distance and other results. For the best results, allow the arm on which you are wearing your watch to swing naturally as you move around and during workouts (where relevant).
Calibrating your watch can improve the accuracy of estimations made by the Activity app and Workout app. More information and instructions for calibrating your watch (including for resetting existing data and starting afresh) are available via the link below.
Activity estimations also depend on your personal information. To check that this has been entered accurately and to update it over time:
- On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > Health > Edit (upper-right).
