Q: Costco credit card dropping Apple Pay - Citibank Business

On June 20, Costco is changing credit cards from Amex to Citibank. If you have Costco business membership, you must have a business card. This was fine with Amex since business cards support Apple Pay. Citibank on the other hand does not allow any business credit card to work with Apple Pay and after several weeks of calls, I find they have no plans to fix it. After 3 weeks of calls to Costco and Citbank here is the deal: if you have a Costco business credit card you must cancel the new card when it arrives, go to Costco cancel your membership, and sign up for a NEW personal membership, then APPLY for a new personal Citi card!

Anyone affected by this should call both Costco and Citi (use the Costco 800 # to get to Citi) and let them know they should:

1. Citi should support Apple Pay for all cards. But for now:

2. Citi should allow you to apply for a personal card even if you have a business Costco membership.

Also: Amex personal and business cards support Apple Pay notifications. Purchases show up on the iPhone and watch seconds after made. Citibank does not support notifications and from what I heard don't know what they are!

Yes I am also disappointed about the loss of real-time transaction notifications through Apple Pay with the new Costco Anywhere Visa Card. I am using a personal Costco membership (and credit card) and was able to add it to Apple Pay this morning, but I do not receive notifications when the card is used in-store or online like I did with the AMEX Costco credit card in the past.

Maybe we can appeal to Costco management that this (Apple Pay notification) is an important security feature that Costco's customers want and need.  Anybody out there work for Costco?  It seems certain that Citi isn't going to much for their customers.  I still haven't been able to figure out if I pay the last bill to Amex or to Citi.  Perhaps Citi hopes we'll pay ours twice!

Well, I just spoke with a supervisor with CITI and she confirmed that the Costco Business Visa WILL NOT work with Apple Pay and she had no idea if any changes were in the works. She told me that to use Apple Pay I needed to apply for a Costco Personal Visa.

    Hi All,

    Costco is on it.

    AS usual!

I Just received this from headquarters:

Allowing business accounts to load the new Costco Visa card onto Apple Pay is a request that has been presented to our card issuer, Citi.  We expect that to completed in the near future, so please look for announcements from Citi.

Citi "has been looking into Apple Pay for business" since Apple Pay started. That letter is from Costco not Citi. It may be years before Citi supports it. BTW, if you look at the differences between the Costco Citi business and personal, the personal has 2 extra benefits anyway. I am curious to hear from someone here who actually got Apple Pay to work on Citi with a Costco business account.

I believe Costco has the weight and influence to convince Citi to make the change but I also hope as part of them enabling their cards to work with Apple Pay that they will also get Apple Pay Notifications to work as well.  What a great security feature!  It has alerted me to issues days before I would have without it.

I'm wondering how this slipped through the cracks (someone had to know this would be an issue)? Also wondering why this has not gone viral? Seems it would affect many but this is the main article I've found on the subject. It's like the dirty little secret that if not fixed quickly will eventually get out to the media (I'm sure someone at AMX is having a fields day with this)...

I know when I discovered the problem, my knee-jerk reaction was to just cancel it all together and use my Chase card (better benefits, apple pay and great notifications). I'm going to give Costco/Citibank a little time to get it right but in the mean time my Chase visa is getting ALL my companies business.

Interestingly: Costco payment processing makes a big deal about Apple Pay. https://www.costcopaymentprocessing.com/applepay/FAQ

I called Citi last night after almost 2 hour wait. I was told that it was actually Costco, not Citi, prohibits Apple Pay on Citi Business Card.

Sorry to hear about the 2 hours but it was wasted since that answer was totally wrong. Remember, the Costco Amex Business cards supported Apple Pay. I started this in April, wrote letters, made dozens of calls, and got many calls back. I have been in touch with an executive team person at both places for weeks and I can assure you Costco was caught completely off guard. This is strictly a Citi issue. I have had a Citi business card for years and it never supported Apple Pay, every time I called to check on it, it's always been "we're looking into it".

I suppose that Citi just flat lied to me. That's upsetting. Well, I told the rep that I will cancel my Citi business card and use some other visa cards. I have Chase cards too, but their business card don't support Apple Pay neither. It's sad state. I really liked Costco Amex card.

To make it worse, my wife was at Costco yesterday and somehow they convinced her to apply a new Costco card and Citi business card. I told her on the phone to ask them whether the Citi business card will support Apple Pay. The Costco people told her that the Citi business cards support Apple Pay, but not at Costco. I'll ask her to withdraw the app.

I just called Costco and they said that Citibank is the one who provides the Apple Pay and to call them.  I called Citibank to verify and they said that they are working on it and it will be available on June 25.   When I inquired about having both a Costco business and personal  Visa, they said that I could have both.  Also, not sure if this impacts anything, but you have to verify your mobile number and set up your alerts in your online Costco Citibank Visa account.  Also, the business card is missing the following two benefits: Trip Cancellation/Interruption and Citi Price rewind.

I discovered a feature of the Citi Bank credit cards that now that I've used it I may like it better than the apple pay notifications.  I registered for an online account and inside the account settings I found notifications for card activity.  You can have them sent to your email or text to your phone.  The benefit of it over apple pay notifications is it notifies me of activity on ALL card holders which I was not able to get with Apple Pay notifications.  Now if they will just add the Business card on Apple Pay I will be happy.

    More bad news folks.....

    * It turns out the Citi Business cards also do not support Quicken downloads, which I use. So I have to get a personal card.

    * I tried to convert an existing personal Citicard to Costco Citi, and they won't do that either. You must apply for a new personal card.

    * I don't know about this yet but was told you can have both business and personal but they have to have different mailing addresses!

Anyone making progress please let us know!
